Every so often, a shift happens — not in technology alone, but in how
humans relate to the systems built around them.

We are living through one of those shifts now.

For decades, the digital world was designed without asking a fundamental
question: who identifies whom, and when? Controllers — organisations,
platforms, services — assumed the right to identify, track, and record
individuals before disclosing who they were or why they were collecting
data. Surveillance became the default architecture of the internet. Not
by malice. By design.

0PN Lab exists to document, study, and build the alternative.

We are a community of researchers, implementers, policy workers, and
practitioners mapping the emergence of Digital Public Transparency
Infrastructure — the layer of the internet that puts controller
identification before data collection, and puts meaningful choice back
in human hands.

This is not a privacy movement in the old sense. Privacy-preserving
systems protect data that organisations already control. What we are
building is different: privacy-enabling infrastructure, where
transparency is the default state, not an opt-in feature. Where you
can verify who is accountable before anyone demands identification
from you.

We call the architectural principle Transparency by Default.

The tagline is simple: It's not fair or trustworthy, if it's not
Transparent First.

Who is 0PN Lab for?

0PN Lab is the professional home of Digital Public-Privacy Officers
and the broader community of practitioners building Digital Public
Transparency Infrastructure.

If you are a course graduate — Digital Privacy Officer pathway:
Your course completion includes 0PN Lab membership. You arrive here
as a credentialed Digital Public-Privacy Officer, with access to the
0PN Policy Group, working groups, implementation resources, and the
